Year long experience of working with these people proved that all disadvantaged groups e.g. women, children, disabled, aged & others irrespective of their castes, creeds, and socio-economic status etc. have the inherent capacity to take responsibility for & make choices about their lives. In fact they are able to articulate & access their rights & emerge as leaders facilitating positive social change. SUK sees itself as a facilitator towards enabling this change. It believes that access to information & knowledge about implication of education, health, nutrition, child protection, livelihood and the available schemes along with changing socio-economic structures curve their life and contribute towards having greater control over their lives.

A culture of silence prevents the women, children and general people from talking about their problems, issues and aspirations as also the violence they are experiencing in their daily life. SUK believes that a collaborative & collective process that connects individuals & the organization with each other enhances learning in a mutually beneficial way. It aims to draw on this synergy to help reach common goals.

The Legal Sanctions: The society started its activities in 1975 and was registered in 1979 under Societies Registration Act, 1961 with the felt need that a more organized and concerted efforts are needed for these people. The society is also registered under The Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Act, 1976. SUK also has the 80G Certificate from Govt. of India. It is empanelled under Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, empanelled as training partner for skill development of Persons with Disability (PwDs) under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment- Govt of India, Empanelled under Swarojgar Corporation ltd. Govt. of West Bengal, Registered under PWD Act- Govt. of West Bengal.
